Energy Use

In 2009 the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure enacted the Green Energy Act to help public agencies including municipalities, hospitals and schools manage and reduce their energy consumption. As part of this Act, Regulation 397/11 requires certain public agencies – municipalities, municipal service boards, school boards, universities, colleges and hospitals – to report on their annual energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions beginning in 2013, starting with reporting amounts from 2011. The regulation also requires the development and implementation of conservation and demand management (CDM) plans starting in 2014.
