Oliver Paipoonge Fire and Emergency Services is now accepting applications for paid per call Firefighters and Emergency First Responders
Applications are open January 9th, 2025 till February 10th, 2025

Recruitment is done twice per year, February and September

Oliver Paipoonge has 6 stations- Slate River, Rosslyn, Stanley, Kakabeka Falls, Murillo and Intola with 19 apparatus'
Our call volume ranges from 350- 600 calls per year
60% are medical calls, 40% are fire calls
Training
The goal of the OPFES training program is to ensure that all responders and prospective responders meet and/or exceed the performance standards outlined in the National Fire Protection Association Standard 1001, Professional Standards for Firefighters, Red Cross First Responder manual and/or in our own Standard Operating Guidelines. We are committed to making our fire service efficient, effective and most importantly, safe for our members and the public we serve.
Recruitment training includes in-house training:
- Radio communication
- Personal protection equipment
- SCBA safety
- Driving an emergency vehicle, and more
Firefighters are required to complete NFPA level certification
Regular firefighter training is scheduled two or three evenings per month
First Responders are required to complete Red Cross First Responder Certification Course
Regular first responder training is scheduled once per month
