The Oliver Paipoonge Heritage Park features 3 attractions in one location!

The fascinating Duke Hunt Museum is housed inside the Slate River Hall, circa 1904, a historic building in itself. Here you can view the many aspects of history from our municipality including articles from our local brickyard, railroad pictures and artifacts, household furnishings, a splendid military section and more.

At the east end of the property, you will find a 50’ X 100’ building, aptly named Russ’ Garage, housing the Russ Wanzuk Collection of vintage cars, race cars, kids pedal cars, toys and numerous memorabilia from auto and racing events. Embraced by these two spectacular facilities is The Village consisting of a Pioneer Home, Carpenter Shop, Newsprint Shop, Cobbler Shop, Blacksmith Shop, the Village General Store, a replica of the Upsula Train Station - including a caboose, a Church, a one room School and Teacherage. All village buildings are furnished and stocked with merchandise that you would expect to see in the early years prior to 1949.

We welcome you to visit and Take a Walk Through the Past!  Watch for special events throughout the season that include the whole family!

Oliver Paipoonge Heritage Park is located on Highway 61, just 15 km from the City of Thunder Bay Airport. Head south on Highway 61 towards the US border and turn right on Gillespie Road.
